For the first time since Week 1 in 2013 there will be a new team ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in my power rankings, a tough pill to swallow. This week I considered making a top 10 because of how teams stack up right now, but keeping a top 5 shows respect, and how good that team is. I don't base my top 5 off formulas but on perspectives; keeps the debate fresh and interesting.
1) Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos overcome the second spot and move ahead of the Hawks in this weeks power rankings. 99.9% of people should have this team at #1. After losing to the Seahawks in Week 3, the Broncos have won two straight and have been playing exceptionally well on defense. Denver comes into this week 5th overall in defense. They have given up an average of 3.3 rushing yards per attempt, making them top 3. The 128 million they spent during the offseason has really showed refinement.
2) San Diego Chargers
The Chargers squeaked out a win over their division rivals, the Oakland Raiders. That being said, it does not change my judgment. Phillip Rivers has been playing so well he comes in this week top 3 in almost every passing category, passer rating, passing touchdown's, passing yards, yards gained per pass attempt, yards gained per pass completion, passing completion, the list goes on and on, he's the MVP in my book thus far. But I'm going back to the defensive side. They rank 3rd in total defense which is something people are overshadowing due to their offensive play. As we all know from last year, defense's win championships.
3) Arizona Cardinals
A lot of people are not giving this squad any credit. They are 4-1 in one of the toughest divisions in football. They are missing multiple elite gaps on the defensive side and they keep continuing to win. Two of their four wins came from their backup quarterback under center with San Francisco being one of them. Will these injuries creep up with them or will they keep defining the word “next man up?” I don't know, but I do know this team should not go unnoticed.
4) Seattle Seahawks
The Seahawks lost a heart breaker at a place that they didn't even know themselves were capable of losing. The Cowboys got invited to the party and left without cleaning up. They out ran the Seahawks beating them at their own game. The Seahawks have now lost to two teams with a combined record of 10-2. There's no fooling everyone anymore, the Seahawks are not the big bullies that take your lunch money and stuff you in a locker. The Seahawks have a lot to answer in terms of who they are. Injures are starting to creep up on them and adjustments need to be made. Depth that is really not that deep as it was last year will be tested these up coming weeks. But the sky isn't falling in Seattle and with the defense that they still have and a quarterback that knows how to win, this team is still a team, if anything, the team to beat.
5) Green Bay Packers
I had the Packers in my top 5 last week and with an outstanding comeback against the Miami Dolphins, they stay put. If there are still doubters about Aaron Rodgers, well he keeps proving you wrong. He shows us why he is one of the best if not, the best quarterback in the league. Sunday he brought back some memories to Dolphins fans on a fake spike to pass with seconds left in the game to inch closer to the endzone. The next play he completed a pass short to Andrew Quarless for the dagger to win the game. The Packers have now won four straight games and is tied for first in their division.
